These earrings were crafted from two hand-painted, abandoned, and damaged, art deco tea cups. One was missing the handle, and the other was cracked right down one side.
The only identifying mark on the china was the 'Cosmos Ware' stamp on the base with the flower emblem. Although I spent some time researching the possible manufacturer, unfortunately I found nothing. I suspect, because of the name and emblem, that the china was manufactured in Japan, but that is just a guess.
In Japan the cosmos flower, known as 'akizakura', or autumn cherry blossom, symbolises serenity, elegance, and the transient beauty of life.
The inside of these cups were delicately painted with orange and blue birds, and sprays of yellow flowers. These rectangle earrings have been created with the hand-painted orange birds.
I believe this china to date from the early 1930's.
