'Foley' is a small district alongside King Street, Fenton - near the border with Longton. There was a pottery at Foley as early as the eighteenth century, owned by Joseph Myatt, who made wares somewhat in the style of Wedgwood.
Altogether there were five different companies which had "Foley" in their name operating in this area.  Foley China Works was first operated by Robinson and Sons in 1850. The factory was purchased in 1885 by Elijah Brain and partners, who manufactured porcelain at Foley Works, Fenton, between 1903 and 1963. 
The china saucer used for the creation of this ring is decorated in the Foley 'Broadway' pattern in Blue. I have selected the gorgeous, fantastical, 'Chelsea Bird' - the centrepiece of the design - that sits in the concave in the middle of the saucer.
This plate was manufactured sometime after 1948 and before 1963.
