Backstamps, or pottery marks, tell us lots of information about a particular piece - not just the manufacturer, but the name of the pattern, the year, and often, even the actual maker. They are also quite often, very striking, and make a great statement piece of jewellery.

J & G. Meakin was an English pottery manufacturing company founded in 1851 and based in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. In the 19th century, J. & G. Meakin was known for the vast quantities of cheap ironstone china it produced for the domestic English market and for export.

This pendant has been crafted using the J&G Meakin backstamp of a 'Lilac Time' cake plate from c1910.

My upcycled, sustainable, broken china jewellery is crafted from ethically-sourced, pre-damaged, vintage china, that would otherwise end up in landfill.
