Thomas Forester started business in 1877 at a small works in the High Street, Longton,

making majolica, earthenware and later, china. By 1893 the business was recorded as employing 520 people at the "Imperial and Phoenix Works" and by 1900 they employed over 700 people. 

I have been unable to learn anything at all about this particular design, except that the backstamp shows it to have been manufactured between 1942 and 1947 during the Wartime Concentration Scheme.

This glorious vintage china may not have been made with Australian sports fans in mind, but the green and gold earrings really strike a patriotic Aussie chord.
